Backing up hard disks and hard disk partitions
It's often useful to make an image of either an entire hard disk or an entire partition. One reason is to duplicate an installed system onto another PC (probably over a network connection); another is to make a backup of your complete hard disk including every aspect of the installed operating systems, which you can restore if you have to replace your hard disk or if you screw things up. Wie versprochen die „Eierlegende-Wollmilch-Sau“-Lösung für das Backup von laufenden XEN-Instanzen. Ein grundlegendes Problem ist das Backup im laufenden Betrieb. Noch während das Backup läuft, verändern laufende Prozesse Dateien. Im Allgemeinen ist die /var-Partition und im Besonderen sind Datenbanken und Mailqueues problematisch - ebenso laufende Virtualisierungs-Instanzen (XEN). Man kann sich nie sicher sein, ob der Stand im Backup wirklich konsistent ist.August 17 2009
